President's Message

Dear Mississippi/Tennessee Members & Friends,

Last fall, Mississippi and Tennessee’s distinguished board members met and concluded that if we combined the two states with joint effort, pooling resources, skills, and knowledge we could increase the American Medical Technologist membership activity within our states. We aim to bring awareness of our profession by enhancing the image of American Medical Technologists professionals.

With the arrival of a new Board of Directors and future leaders, I am privileged to be part of the collective achievements of Mississippi and Tennessee as your incoming President. I would like to commend the outstanding leadership of Kay Burnett and the previous Tennessee board. I am excited to introduce the new class of Directors to the combined state board, a mix of fresh and familiar faces, who I am confident will continue our path of success. Let's warmly welcome our new Officers and Board, who are all set to bring new perspectives, ideas, and opportunities for our members.

  • Kathy Sutton  President
  • Jackie Harris Vice-President
  • Benita Williams- Secretary
  • Walter Parsons- Treasurer
  • Cecil Hunt   At-Large Member (MS)
  • Valerie Owens  At-Large Member (TN)
  • Candace Rickson  At-Large Member (TN)
  • LaKisha Redmon  At-Large Member (MS)
  • Shaniera Miller  At-Large Member (MS)
  • Cynthia Morrison   At-Large Member (MS)

When I joined AMT, it provided great networking and education opportunities and great new friends throughout the healthcare profession. Volunteering with AMT on the committees and serving on board levels gave me a greater appreciation for our organization. So, let's not forget the crucial role of our committees this year.

  • Legislative – Chair Kathy Sutton
  • By-Laws/ SOP- Chair Gaye Hudson
  • Scientific- Chair - Cynthia Morrison
  • National Laboratory Week – Chair Benita Williams
  • National RMA Week- Chair Shaniera Miller
  • National RPT Week- Chair LaKisha Redmon
  • Membership – Chair Kathy Sutton
  • Audit – Chair Kim Wheeler

In 2024, the Board’s and my priorities will be to (1) engage our members to become even more involved with AMT both on the state and national levels and (2) help our members to grow professionally, whether that’s by improving their skill sets for your current job through the tools provided by AMT or by advancing your professional career through AMT,s vast network, and (3) continue to provide you with solutions and opportunities through AMT resources.

If you have an idea, suggestion, comment, improvement, or criticism, please contact me or our leadership team to express your thoughts. If you want to make a difference, contact the Chair of the Committees and let them know you want to get more involved.

Make Plans to attend the Magnolia Education Treasures, September 20-23, 2024, in Orlando, Florida.

I’m looking forward to a fantastic 2024, and I am grateful for your partnership and dedication to our MS/TN society to make it all possible!

Very Respectfully,
Kathy L. Sutton, MLS, (AMT)
